Othello, The Moor of Venice

“Othello” is one of the best-known and most popular plays by William Shakespeare (1564-1616) which belongs to four great tragedies being considered the top of the playwright's works. The conflict between sincerity and hypocrisy, devotion and careerism, trustfulness and treachery, nobility and meanness incarnate in the images of Shakespeare's characters exceed the bounds of a purely domestic story about love, jealousy, and revenge, rising to the highest tragic motif of a noble personality's clash with the world which is insensible and even hostile to the highest human values.
